Bio
A Consultant Clinical adviser in the Topic Selection team at NICE advising on new technologies for the Technology Appraisals and Medtech Programmes. Dr Leonard has been involved in the work within NICE and DH to better understand the emerging antimicrobial pipeline and how the full benefits and costs of new antimicrobials can best be evaluated. Dr Leonard completed clinical and research training in Ireland, London (including 2 years as a British Council Research Fellow) and Stanford University in California before coming to Manchester in 2000 to take up an NHS Consultant Respiratory/Transplant Physician post. Dr Leonard has a wide experience in antimicrobial prescribing in respiratory and immunocompromised patients in addition to his other interests. Dr Leonard spends 50% of his time in clinical work and also chairs the University Hospital of South Manchester NHS Trust Medicines Optimisation committee and is a member of the Greater Manchester Health & Social Care Partnership Medicines Strategy Committee, and sits on the British Thoracic Society’s specialist advisory group for interstitial lung disease.
