Dr. Sibbel recently retired from over 39 years of mixed animal veterinary practice and multiple Animal Health company leadership roles. Most recently, he was Executive Director of Technical Services for Merck Animal Health in the US Food Animal Business Unit. In his latest role, he was responsible for over 50 technical service veterinarians and PhD animal scientists in cattle, swine, poultry, aquaculture and Pharmacovigilance.
He currently is Owner and Director of Executive Veterinary and Health Solutions LLC, where he consults for businesses and organizations working in Food Animal industries to provide management support service and strategic leadership for the evolving animal protein industries. He continues to be especially active in business consolidation strategies, global antibiotic stewardship roles and developing strategic innovation pathways for the national and global Food Animal industries.
Dr. Rick Sibbel earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1979, and a bachelor of science in Pre-Veterinary Science from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln.
He has a long history of leadership within the industry and an extensive animal health background. Most notably, Dr. Sibbel played a leading role in the development and launch of the first genetically-engineered pseudorabies vaccine, the first influenza vaccine for swine and a viral-vectored vaccine for poultry. In his 39 plus years in the Animal Health Industry, he has helped license more than 20 vaccines for livestock and poultry.
Dr. Sibbel has published several peer-reviewed articles on vaccine trials and usage, and disease eradication, and is a member of the American Association of Bovine Veterinarians, the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Academy of Veterinary Consultants, the American Association of Swine Veterinarians and the National Institute of Animal Agriculture.
