Managing Director
St George Street Capital
Mike Johnson has a background as Managing Director of two manufacturing companies and has founded a highly successful start-up company inkjet printing metal. He holds a First Class Honours Degree in Mechanical Engineering and has studied an MBA. Having worked as a consultant with LifeArc, formerly MRCT for two years, he helped to develop and gain approval for a new 10-Year Strategic Plan. The key change is that as well as working to commercialize the IP for the MRC, LifeArc is offering this service to others. In December 2011 he was appointed Director of Corporate Partnerships to build productive partnerships with technology and funding organizations both nationally and internationally. The primary focus has been to support medical research charities, leading to significant interaction with leading charities by helping to develop their strategy to translate research for the benefit of patients. LifeArc is now supporting over 60 charities, enabling them to demonstrate the impact of their grant funded research and delivery of their charitable objects. He is particularly keen to develop innovative funding and collaboration models to help drive research to the patient and was instrumental in the creation of the Dementia Consortium, NeuroMAP and SpringWorks Therapeutics. Before leaving, Mike had taken additional responsibility for Business Development and Marketing within LifeArc, overseeing the rebranding. In February of this year, Mike left to become Managing Director of a new charity – St George Street Capital. Funded by a high net worth, the charity is taking stalled assets from pharma, where there is clear clinical evidence of effectiveness in other areas, and funding their clinical trials to take these much needed assets to the patient.
