Company Overview
Optalert is a leader in the field of drowsiness measurement and detection, with technology that also offers the potential for eye and eyelid movements to be used to detect biomarkers for neurological diseases.

Optalert technology allows for objective and quantitative measurement of eye and eyelid movements to measure drowsiness/wakefulness on a 10-point scale, and has been used by independent researchers to measure the effects of sleep deprivation, sleep restriction and the effects of stimulants such as caffeine.

Optalert was founded by Dr. Murray Johns, a pioneer in sleep research and the inventor of the Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS), the internationally accepted scale of sleep propensity which is widely used in clinical and research settings.

Optalert technology is available now to be used as a quick, non-intrusive, scientifically validated method of measuring the wakefulness-promoting or drowsiness-inducing effects of drugs undergoing clinical trials.
